WASHINGTON (WTNH) — In a letter addressed to Veteran’s Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and other members of the U.S. Senate are asking for an update on the conditions of the Veterans Benefits Administration Fiduciary Program.
In two separate audits on the VBA, they were found to be failing to conduct field examinations and misused procedures which resulted in the misuse of the benefits of veterans.
“By failing to fulfill its legally required oversight responsibilities, VBA is placing the health and financial well-being of our most vulnerable veterans – and their hard earned benefits – at intolerable risk,” the letter said. “It is unconscionable that VBA has been repeatedly warned of these risks and has yet to effectively implement oversight measures to prevent unscrupulous actors from exploiting veterans.”
As of Thursday, the VA Secretary had not responded to the letter.
