MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — The woman involved in a drunk driving crash which left one person dead and two others hurt in 2013 was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison Tuesday at Manchester Superior Court.
27-year-old Zuleyma Cruz of Hartford was driving on Route 2 in East Hartford on August 3rd, 2013 when she lost control of her car. She swerved across the highway and crashed into trees along the right shoulder before coming to a stop off the road. The accident killed 26-year-old Samuel Pacheco, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car. Two others were hurt when they were thrown from the car.
Cruz pled to charges of manslaughter and assault with a motor vehicle earlier this year. She accepted a plea deal for the time in jail. Cruz will also serve five years probation.
