(WTNH/AP) – A top aide to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo hit by a bullet in the crossfire of a gang ‘shoot-out’ has been taken off life support.

43-year-old Carey Gabay was declared brain-dead on Wednesday. The Harvard University trained attorney was struck by a bullet in Brooklyn, back on Labor Day.

Gabay  leaves behind a wife, who is expecting the couple’s first child. Governor Cuomo is remembering him as an outstanding public servant.

Police Commissioner William Bratton said investigators were focusing on two gangs whose members are well known to the New York Police Department. No arrests have been made in the case.
