(WTNH) — Target has recalled about 178,000 Zak Designs, 26-ounce plastic water bottles after receiving reports of parts breaking, creating choking hazards.
The water bottles are 10-inches tall, have a flip-top spout, a twist-off cap with colored inner plastic straws. The water bottles were sold exclusively at Target stores in a “Back-to-College” promotion. Zak Designs received nine reports of the inner plastic straw breaking, including seven reports of plastic fragments spit out by children using the bottle. No injuries have been reported, but the company says consumers should immediately stop using the bottles and contact them for a free replacement cap and straw.
Zak Designs says the water bottles were sold nationwide from June 2015 to July 2015 for about $10.
The water bottles have popular characters on them and come in a variety of colors including clear, gray, navy blue, pink, teal blue, gray with color caps in red, blue, pink, and yellow. Characters include Captain America, Batman, Minions, My Little Pony, Spiderman, StarWars aircraft, Superman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thor, and Wonder Woman.
Mold number “14158” and “Zak Designs” are embossed on the bottom of the bottles. Bottles with a black inner straw and black twist-off cap are not included in the recall.
