One dead, two injured in North Canaan shooting


NORTH CANAAN, Conn. (WTNH) — One person is dead and two are seriously injured after a shooting in North Canaan Saturday night.

State police say officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at a home on Mountain View Lane in North Canaan shortly after 5:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found three people who were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

55-year-old Brian Johnson, of North Canaan, was pronounced dead on the scene. Anthony Carubba, 54, of Sheffield, Mass., sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sharon Hospital. He is currently is critical but stable condition.

Police say they believe 51-year-old Bruce Johnson is responsible for the shooting and he was also found on scene suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by Life Star to Hartford Hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.

Detectives from Western District Major Crimes responded to the scene and are investigating. Mountain View Lane will remain closed during the investigation, according to police.

This is an active investigation and state troopers say there is no threat to the public.
