Heavy rain makes for difficult commute

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH)–  The heavy rain is making for a difficult commute this morning and drivers are urged to go slow. News 8’s Kent Pierce was in the mobile weather lab giving us a look at I-95 in New London.

He says the strong rain makes it hard to see just 50 feet in front you, especially in traffic with the spray kicking up from other vehicles.

Some people are driving slower than usual, as they should, but he says other cars are going too fast. Four wheel drive may help you go, but it won’t help you stop in slippery conditions, which can cause hydroplaning.

He also has seen a few accidents around the state, including a pickup truck on its side on the Baldwin Bridge and another  accident I-95 south near exit 83.

Drivers are urged to be careful because we haven’t seen rain like this in awhile.
