New Haven after-school program receives grant for student music lessons

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A local after-school arts program just received thousands of dollars towards furthering the advancement of music in the Elm City.

Disney’s ABC and WTNH teamed up to donate a $5,000 grant to Music Haven. The organization introduces the art of music to local children. Musicians teach free lessons to group classes on various instruments, like the violin and cello.

“This gives kids an opportunity to do something with their time and not branch out and do something that could get them in trouble possibly,” said Denasha Upchurch, Music Haven violin student.
