Standing desks becoming new trend

(WTNH) — Standing desks have become the new trend at offices across the country and health experts say it can be good for you.

“The benefit of a standing desk is you’re already standing, you’re burning about 20% more calories than if you were sitting. And in addition, because you’re already standing, you’re probably more likely to be doing some additional subtle movements that burn even more calories,” said Dr. Michael Jensen.

70 percent of officer workers spend more than 5 hours a day sitting down, and health experts say sitting for a long time like that can lead to health problems. Like premature cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

ABC News reporter Tory Johnson takes things one step further by using a treadmill desk during her work day.

There are some potential negatives to standing at work. It can lead to some musculo-skeletal problems, but experts agree that the bottom line of standing at work is one simple thing..Balance.
