BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)- A new twist in Bridgeport’s controversial mayoral race. Former Governor and U.S. Senator Lowell Weicker is throwing his support behind candidate Mary-Jane Foster. Foster is running as an Independent Democrat.

“Mary-Jane’s life experiences: having been raised by a single mother, working her way through law school, advocating on behalf of victims of domestic violence, running a business, and working in education,” said Weicker, “provides her with the type of perspective that Bridgeport needs.”

Weicker is highly respected in Bridgeport, credited with saving the park city when he was Governor, by moving Housatonic Community College downtown, saving the Zoo, and giving the city needed resources.
