Milford man arrested for making homemade bombs

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have arrested a man accused of making homemade pipe bombs after a family member found them in the basement of his Milford home.

Jason Bayard, 39, of 67 Victory Drive, is in police custody after officers arrested him at his home Thursday following an investigation that began on Aug. 22. One of Bayard’s family members called police when they found what appeared to be pipe bombs in the basement.

Milford officers confirmed that there were improvised bombs in the residence and contacted the State Police Bomb Unit for assistance. The bomb squad removed the explosives and transported them to a safe blast site, where they detonated them.

Police say that the material Bayard used to make the bombs were all store bought items.

Bayard is charged with manufacturing of bombs along with illegal possession and storage of explosives. He is held on a $75,000 bond.
