Report: 85 sexual assaults reported at UConn in 2014

STORRS, Conn. (WTNH) — Most of the students we spoke to on the UConn campus say they have heard of the number 85 reported sexual assaults reported to the UConn campus, and they say it is a frequent topic of discussion.

Those students say it is a topic discussed on day one. “I think the school has made some steps in the right direction at freshman orientation there are some things we talk about sexual assault,” said sophomore Jennifer Wozniak.

A spokeperson for UConn says that the school is doing more and more every year to teach students that no, means no. “It is our responsibility as a student to stick together and look out for each other when were out at night walking home from the library if you see something say something,” said senior Jessica Oknin.

UConn says the numbers are also a little bit weird because they are for the 2014 calendar year, not a school year, but they say they will be looking hard at the numbers for 2015.
