HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Crews are still working to repair an intersection in the capital city today following a massive water main break last night.
A massive water main break burst through the intersection of Newfield and New Britain Avenues in Hartford last night. The break was so intense, the water shot up like a geyser. Businesses and the basements of nearby homes were flooded.
During the repair, water was shut down around 11 o’clock last night. The water shut off affected several homes and businesses between Newfield Avenue and Wilbur Street. Water service was back on by 5:15 this morning.
However, crews are still excavating the area for inspection of other equipment in the area, including an air valve. Newfield Avenue will remain closed, and one lane on New Britain Avenue will be shut down during the process. As of right now, there are no estimates for when the road will be restored completely. We’re told it will likely continue through the day.
