The situation unfolded when police say multiple reports came in around 10 a.m. about an armed party heading toward VCU’s Monroe Park campus. Authorities described the subject as a male with a square military style hat and a backpack. He was last seen going east on Grace from Belvidere Street in Oregon Hill.

VCU, Richmond and Virginia State Police all responded to the scene and conducted a search. They did not find anyone matching the description given.

VCU Police are continuing to investigate.

It’s important to remember that open carry is legal in Virginia, though firearm restriction varies from campus to campus.
