Gas leaks affect Milford daycare center

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A gas leak caused by a rogue forklift in FCP, a Milford autobody shop, forced at least four other businesses in the area to evacuate temporarily, including a daycare center.

Just after 11 a.m. Monday, police received the report that a forklift at FCP had hit the ceiling and punctured a gas pipe.  A crew of at least six vehicles from Milford police and fire was dispatched to Hill Street Business Park in Milford.

While many spaces in Hill Street Business Park are vacant, at least five business were evacuated while crews worked to find an alternate “shutoff,” as the control panel in FCP had also been damaged by the forklift.

Upon conducting a metering test with the help of a local gas company, they found that there was no residual gas. All of the businesses, including the daycare center, resumed their days by noon.
