Route 4 in Torrington reopened after fatal crash

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) – A section of Route 4 in Torrington has reopened following a fatal accident early Monday morning.

Torrington police say that at 1:17 a.m., a car traveling on Route 4 veered off of the south side of the road, hit a telephone pole, a stone wall, and then a tree. Police say the driver, 37-year-old Michael Chase of Torrington, who was the only person in the car, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Route 4 between Pothier Road and University Drive was closed for the investigation. The road reopened just after 10 a.m.

The Accident Investigation Team is still investigating. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call police at (860)489-2000.
