NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven Restaurant Reek starts the first week November and tables will fill up. Participating restaurants are ready to take reservations. Twenty-seven eateries from all over they city will cook up a special three course menu at the price of 18 dollars for lunch and 32 dollars for dinner.
“This brings us all together. It brings not only the community together but it brings the restaurant community together in a way we could never do on our own,” said Elizabeth Ciarlelli, Manager of Zinc.
It is a boost to our local economy. Upwards of 30,000 people will come to dine over the six days.
“People come from all over Connecticut and they make a day of it and they generate economic activity which is essential for the businesses of New Haven to be able to create jobs and pay taxes,” said Chief Marketing Officer with Market New Haven, Anne Worcester.
It is a win-win for restaurants and the Connecticut Food Bank.
“When folks are out dining, at the end of their meal they will be asked by their server if they would be willing to donate one dollar, because one dollar feeds one person for one day,” said Worcester.
“Everybody gets to give back something into the communities that we live and work in,” said Ciarlelli.
Locals say they look forward to restaurant week.
“I think it’s really cool we get to experience food that we normally wouldn’t be able to eat and just go to because there’s incentive here,” said Chris Randall.
“Zinc is local farm fresh they have the pulse of the community. They’ve got a pizza kitchen in back which is what New Haven is famous for,” said Charlotte Eliscu.
“Go out and see New Haven. We have a lot of great things here and you might find a new favorite restaurant,” said Randall.
“There will not be any reservations usually by Tuesday evening. You can get a reservation, but it might not be the time that you want, or you might not be able to get a reservation at all if you wait, so call ahead,” said Ciarlelli.
In the past New Haven Restaurant Week raised 13,000 dollars and they hope to raise even more money this year.
