Middletown man dead after crash in Durham

DURHAM, Conn. (WTNH)– A Middletown man has died in a single car crash in Durham Monday night.

State police confirm that 42-year-old Robert Southwick of Middletown died after crashing a Chevy Avalanche in the area of Coe Road around 11:20 p.m. Route 17 was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the accident but has since reopened.


Troopers say the vehicle crossed over to the southbound lane, hit an embankment, then rolled over and struck a tree. The vehicle came back onto the roadway landing on its roof and slid across the roadway and hit the metal guardrail. Southwick was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash is still under investigation.
