New Haven Police investigating Chapel Street homicide

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was shot to death on Chapel Street in New Haven Thursday night.

New Haven Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Chapel Street, west of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered 29-year-old Antoine Heath sitting in his parked car with a gunshot wound to the chest. The West Haven man was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 8:00 p.m.

Homicide Detectives are investigating the incident. Witnesses tell police that the suspect is a black man or woman with shoulder-length braids or dread-locks. They were seen fleeing from the area of the shooting into Edgewood Park. Another witness reported a black or dark colored sedan speeding off after the shooting.

Police are considering the at-large suspect armed and dangerous. Chapel Street was closed between the Boulevard and Yale Avenue.
