New London High School closing to remove asbestos

(WTNH) — New London High School and neighboring Science and Technology Magnet High School will close on Tuesday to remove asbestos in the gym area.

nlhs gym floor 2The gym floor sustained significant damage from torrential rain and flooding last month, leaving it buckled. The schools will be closed on Tuesday, October 13 to repair the floor and remove the asbestos.

All school practices and activities are cancelled for Tuesday and no one under the age of 18 is allowed in the building.

Air quality professionals will come to test the air quality and make sure it’s safe for everyone to return to the building. Both schools will reopen Wednesday, October 14.
