(ABC NEWS) — Buckle up that bike helmet.
Although it’s what millions of bicycle riders do before every trip, you might be interested in some proof that it really makes a difference. New research shows just how important this simple step may be.
At the University of Arizona, researchers looked at more than six thousand patients with injuries from bike accidents. Those who were wearing helmets had 58 percent lower odds of severe brain injury and a reduced risk of dying from their injuries.
Why is this so important? Well, according to the Centers for Disease Control, fewer than half of American bicycle riders actually wear helmets. But if you’re a bike rider, this study will now be quoted to you by everyone who loves you.
So when it comes to riding a bike, use your head by protecting it with a helmet.
