State employees make more money than their private counterparts

HARTFORD, CONN. (WTNH) – A new Yankee Institute Study shows that state employee’s earning are higher than those of non-government workers in similar positions in Connecticut.

The study reveals that earnings including wages & benefits such as retirement are at least 25 percent more and could be as high as 46 percent more for state workers over their counterparts in the private sector. The study states although their salaries are similar – $71.112 vs. $70.970 – there is a major difference in benefits – $54,561 vs. $29,371. The study does not include public safety workers.

The Yankee Institute for Public Policy is a Connecticut think tank that develops and advances policy solutions to promote smart, limited government and fairness for taxpayers.
