Police investigating after SUV found in Lake Shenipsit

TOLLAND, Conn. (WTNH) – Police are investigating after an SUV wound up in Lake Shenipsit.

Troopers were called to Shenipsit Lake in Ellington around 7 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, troopers saw the SUV partially submerged approximately 8′ off the edge of the shore. Ellington fire personnel entered the water and found that the vehicle was unoccupied.

They discovered the car was registered to a Vernon resident. Vernon police contacted the woman, who reported the vehicle as stolen from her residence.

Right now, Troopers say that it looks like the vehicle was deliberately driven into the water. They didn’t find anyone in the car or the water. Police are treating this as a vehicle theft and are looking into how it wound up in the water. The investigation is ongoing.
