HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A new Google website has determined what Halloween costumes will be the most popular this year.

Frightgeist uses daily search data from Google Trends to determine the top 500 costumes in the United States and then breaks them down by location.

The top ten costumes currently trending in the U.S. are:

  1. Harley Quinn
  2. Star Wars
  3. Superhero
  4. Pirate
  5. Batman
  6. Minnie Mouse
  7. Witch
  8. Minions
  9. Joker
  10. Wonder Woman

The costumes that are trending this year in Hartford are similar to what is trending nationally. The top five costumes locally are:

  1. Harley Quinn
  2. Star Wars
  3. Superhero
  4. Wonder Woman
  5. Cheerleader

Frightgeist also noted that Herminone Granger is an usually popular costume in Hartford.

And the most popular costumes continue to change per location. For Boston, the top costume is pirate; in New York City, it is superhero; and in Los Angeles, it is Star Wars.

Frightgeist hopes the data will give you insight into choosing a unique costume that will turn heads at a costume party near you.
