ALBANY (KRON) — A popular East Bay haunted house scheduled to open Friday night may be shut down after receiving complaints that the home is too scary for some neighbors.

The 15-year-old creator and resident of the well-known attraction, Sam DuBois, enlisted several friends to build this spooky masterpiece. DuBois and his small crew put in countless hours in hopes of opening the doors in time for Halloween.

But it appears that the only folks walking through DuBois’ haunted house this weekend may be ghosts.

“When I found out that some people were not entirely happy with our event, it kind of got me down in the dumps, and I was like, ‘This isn’t good,’” DuBois said.

SCREAMS FOR A CAUSE

Hundreds of people have walked through the rooms of haunted house which has been themed Bad Dreams.

But only does the haunted house offer for screaming fun for the locals, it gives a special treat back to the community. DuBois has helped raised $1,000 and 600 pounds of food for the Alameda County Food Bank.

And, because the holiday falls on a weekend, the first time in years, it’s expected that the attraction may draw a slightly bigger crowd.

TOO SCARY

A neighbor has reported a list of complaints against the house. The woman is asking to remain anonymous after people began threatening to burn her house down.

But she told KRON that she felt DuBois was too loud during construction and that she doesn’t like looking at the structure.

She also said that the content is too scary for her young children, who, according to the neighbor, have to listen to the screams and unsavory music.

FACING A LAWSUIT

Dubois’ mom said the neighbor threatened to sue if they do not get permission from the city. So now the teen is waiting to hear if officials will grant him a permit to hold his event this weekend.

Not everybody is spooked by DuBois’ haunted house.  Many other neighbors that KRON spoke with voiced support for his event.

“As that negativity poured in, so did…positivity,” DuBois said.

The haunted house has several rooms and tricks, and Sam even has a dozen actors come to play out the parts of possessed dentists and witches.

The vote on the permit is this Wednesday.
