NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–A Yale University fraternity is under the microscope after reportedly throwing a party themed “White Girls Only.”

It all started after a Facebook post made by someone who was not at Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s party Friday night. They posted about how a group of girls were turned away because they weren’t white.

“It doesn’t matter what the party looked like on the inside. What matters is what people said to people who were trying to enter the party,” said Corey Malone-Smolla, a senior at Yale.

“In hearing what people have been talking about, I don’t suspect that they actually had a whites-only party,” said Graham White, a law student at Yale. “But, it’s highly likely that people say dumb things when they’re drunk, which can be offensive.”

Malone-Smolla wasn’t at the Friday night party, but has been to the fraternity house before. She says, “I’m just tired of it, totally sick of what they stand for and the way they treat people. They’re wealthy, white, rich people who just treat people like crap.”

News 8 went to SAE and asked the fraternity’s president, Grant Mueller, about these accusations.

“It’s obviously incredibly upsetting for anybody to hear that story,” Mueller said. “That someone would sit right where I’m standing and say, “White Girls Only, that’s awful. Especially to me.”

We asked Mueller, “Were there all different people here? White? Hispanic? Black?” He said, “Absolutely, of all genders, races, sexualities. Yes, of course.”

Mueller said that both Yale officials and the New Haven police showed up Friday asking them to clear the packed porch and sidewalk.

News 8 also asked Mueller if he has anything to say to the alleged victim in this case and others claiming they’ve been treated poorly by his frat. Mueller responded, “I don’t know. I would love to have a conversation with her, but I don’t know. It’s obviously a conversation that needs to be had.”

News 8 asked Yale University for a comment regarding these allegations at the fraternity party.

They declined, at least for now.
