City of Danbury receives federal grant

Elizabeth Esty

WASHINGTON and DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty has announced that Danbury will receive over $500,000 from the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.

The grant money will be used to help state and local governments develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income persons.

“Hardworking families deserve access to quality, affordable housing,” Congresswoman Esty said. “This grant will help improve affordability and generate new economic and housing opportunities for the Danbury community. I thank Secretary Castro and the Department of Housing and Urban Development for their longstanding commitment to our families as well as the prosperity and vitality of cities and towns across Connecticut.”

“The Community Development Block Grant is instrumental to assuring that our residents have opportunities to succeed and achieve. When good people work together great things can happen; Danbury thanks Congresswoman Esty for her hard work in securing these vital funds for our residents,” Mayor Mark Boughton said.
