One person shot in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police are investigating an early morning shooting in New Haven that sent one person to the hospital.


At about midnight, officers responded to Winthrop Avenue and George Street on reports of shots fired. When they arrived at the scene, they found 27-year-old Michael Murphy, who had been shot once in the abdomen.

According to witness reports, Murphy had been confronted by a light-skinned black man who shot him after a short conversation. The shooter is believed to have fled the scene in a green mini-van north on Winthrop Avenue toward Edgewood Avenue.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital for surgery. Police say he was alert and stable when he arrived at the hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the crime or has information that may be valuable to investigators is urged to phone the Detective Bureau at (203) 946-6304.
