Branford-based Martha Link Walsh makes paper-cutting an art

There are all kinds of artists in the world, and on this edition of “Nyberg,” you’ll meet an artist who creates by cutting paper. She never set out to do this for life, but it just evolved and she’s still doing it 40 years later.

Martha Link-Walsh creates her designs with pencil, and then goes to work with tiny scissors and scalpels. It may look tedious, but Walsh says it’s actually quite the opposite.

“It’s really very relaxing, it is,” she said. “The designing is hard, but the cutting is the reward. The cutting is really, really fun ecause there’s always things cutting away, falling apart and you’re seeing it evolve.”

Walsh has put some of her creations into two books. She has a gallery and studio in Branford where you can find her designs.
