New Haven looking at plans for two-way streets

(WTNH)–Some one-way streets in New Haven may soon become two-way streets. That’s the plan being proposed by city planners, who are looking to make Church Street between Chapel and Elm Street a two-way street.

They also want to turn Chapel Street between High Street and Park Street into a two-way. Elm Street is also being looked at, as planners may want to convert two-way traffic between Broadway and State Street.

Church Street runs right along the New Haven green.

City planners say this would make it easier for people to get around downtown, and it also makes it safer for pedestrians crossing the street.

Often times, cars in the further lane of a one-way street can’t see if there is someone trying to cross the road.
