NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A new plan is in the works to possibly change the layout of some of New Haven’s streets.
City planners are looking to make Church Street between Chapel and Elm Street, running right along the green, a two-way street. They are also looking into doing the same project on Chapel Street between High Street and Park Street. Elm Street is also being looked at to convert to two-way traffic between Broadway and State Street.
City planners say it will make it easier for people to get around downtown, and it also makes it safer for pedestrians crossing the street. Often cars in the further lane can’t see if there is someone trying to cross the road.
Nothing is scheduled to happen immediately and there is no definite guarantee that the plans will be implemented according to Dough Hausladen, Director of New Haven’s Department of Transportation.
