New Haven Police Investigate Suspicious Shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven police are trying to sort out a shooting incident that happened Wednesday.

Officers were walking a beat on Bassett Street when they heard a gunshot. The pair then headed to Dixwell Avenue, where they thought the gunfire originated. Upon arrival, they found the victim, 22-year-old Michael Stanley. He had been shot in the right leg.

Stanley told the officers he didn’t see who shot him, but that there was a dark-colored Audi driving by at the time. But police think the wound may have been self-inflicted. They even have a witness who’s account backs that theory up. This is only a theory though.

Police are waiting for the results of forensic testing before they make a final conclusion, but they do want to hear from anyone who may be able to help them sort this whole thing out. You can give them a call at 203-946-6304. You don’t have to give your name.

As for the victim, Michael Stanley, he was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven hospital. He’s expected to be okay.
