Drummer on The Beatles’ “Love Me Do” Dies

(WTNH) — Andy White, a well-known session drummer appearing on several hit songs, passed away at the age of 85.

Reports say White passed away at his New Jersey home following a stroke.

White appeared on several hits, including several Herman’s Hermits songs, along with hits like Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” and The Beatles’ number one single, “Love Me Do.” The session with the Fab Four came after between Pete Best’s departure and Ringo Starr’s entrance.

Outside of session work, White toured with Marlene Dietrich in the ’60s and consulted on the 2012 film Not Fade Away per request from The Sopranos actor and E-Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt.
