NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A one of a kind New Haven barber is still making his customers feel great about themselves at 81-year-young.
Vinny Simeone says that after nearly 60 years in business, customers are more like family instead of paying clients. “I got started in my dad’s shop, said Simeone, “I used to sweep the floor and help people with their coats. And I used to watch him cut hair.” A photo of Vinny’s father hangs proudly in his barber shop.
Vinny’s barbering talents are renowned, with even some Hollywood actors stopping by for a quick touch up. “I had Ed Asner here. He was here for the commencement at Southern Connecticut. He gave me a hug and said I’ll see you again sometime,” Vinny recalls.
“I love what I do and I’m dedicated to my customers,” said Vinny. One customer recalled, “I had just gotten through with surgery and I just came home from the hospital. I remember I called him up and I said, ‘Vinny, I can’t come there. I need a haircut.’ He came to the house.”
