Westport, Conn. (WTNH)- Westport firefighters say working smoke detectors may have helped save a family after flames broke out at their home on Roseville Road yesterday afternoon.

The fire department was alerted to the blaze by an automatic fire alarm shortly before two o’clock. Fire officials say that alarm was critical to those inside making it out safely.

Westport firefighters, with the help of a unit from Fairfield were able to limit a majority of the damage to the laundry room, although they say there is smoke damage throughout the residence.
