False alarm prompts evacuations at the University of New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Sections of the University of New Haven were evacuated after a suspicious package was found on a city bus on Thursday night.

West Haven police tell News 8 that the department was investigating a suspicious package that was left on a city transit bus on the Post Road, near Subway.

Police said several buildings including Bayer Hall, the Beckerman Recreation Center, and the Subway were evacuated.

Police determined the incident was a false alarm and the suspicious package was a suitcase full of clothes that had been left on the bus.

There is no threat to the campus community and police say there was nothing of suspicious nature in the suitcase. Police say they needed to evacuate as a precaution.
