WOLCOTT, Conn. (WTNH) — A Wolcott woman is facing 59 counts of animal cruelty after police found 59 cats in unlivable conditions in her home last month.

Police say Cheryl McMurray turned herself in on Thursday after a warrant for her arrest was obtained. In October, police were called to 83 Finch Road in Wolcott as a part of an investigation into what appeared to be animal hoarding.

When officers arrived, they found 59 cats living in the Finch Road home among feces and urine. Another cat was found dead in the freezer. Animal control responded and took the cats from the home.

A judge has ordered McMurray not to possess any cats or dogs. She is expected to be arraigned on November 30.
