PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)- A Sterling teenager is okay after driving off the road, and into a utility pole, taking down wires, and spilling chemicals into the roadway from a damaged transformer.
Police say 18-year-old Ashley Scott hit the pole on Starkweather Road in Plainfield around 10:45 on Nov. 23. Police say Scott was able to get out of the car and call 911, but because of downed wires it took first responders some time to get to Scott. Eversource was called to the scene to de-energize the utility wires, and Scott was treated at the scene, and then taken to the hospital. Police say Scott had minor injuries to her shoulder, because of her seat belt.
Eversource and Frontier Communications crews were on the scene for hours, repairing t he utility wires and the pole. A hazmat crew was also called to the scene because chemicals were spilling into the road from a transformer that was damaged on the broken utility pole.
