CT’s first Kid Governor pushes for kindess

(WTNH) — Elena Tipton, a 5th grade student at Dr. Thomas O’Connell School in East Hartford, was elected as the first Connecticut’s Kid Governor on Nov. 13 after a statewide election where hundreds of Connecticut fifth graders across the state voted.

“My big goal is to get everyone to spread kindness and just be kinder especially with all that’s going around in the world right now,” said Elena. Elena ran on the platform to establish the 13th of every month as kindness day.

Connecticut’s Kid Governor is a educational program created by Connecticut’s Old State House in downtown Hartford. This was the first year the program took place. The Old State House was formerly a capitol building and city hall and is now a museum that offers tours, programs, exhibits and school programs.

Elena will have a formal inauguration at Connecticut’s Old State House in January.
