MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – It may not be Black Friday, but some businesses are hoping to cash in early on consumer spending as many stores are already open on the Thanksgiving holiday. One of those stores was over at the K-mart in Milford where News 8 saw people making purchases for the Christmas holiday.

The National Retail Federation predicts nearly 136 million Americans will shop over Thanksgiving weekend, the most popular items people will purchase are gift cards. News 8 talked with shoppers about why they decided to shop on Thanksgiving and we were told that it was due to convenience and because it is fun.

“There’s a lot of people who have nothing to do,” said Dorthy Lutinski of Milford.

K-mart isn’t the only store that will be open today, other places include Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Macy’s.
