Greenwich, Conn. (WTNH) – The New York City Police Department helped police in Greenwich to arrest a woman wanted for check fraud. The NYPD’s 67th Precinct Detective Squad took Mariel Blackman into custody for an active felony arrest warrant. Blackman was then taken to the Greenwich Police Department for processing.
Police say twenty-five year old Mariel Blackman and two other accomplices would try to withdraw money from the Bank of America in Old Greenwich. Detectives say it’s a system known as “abandonment check fraud”, where one person knowingly deposits a fraudulent check into an account. The person then asks for those funds but the bank isn’t aware at the time that the check is bad. The person then abandons the account which is now in debt. All of this happened back in the summer of 2014
Police say Blackman’s co-conspirator JKwon D. Roney was arrested in December of 2014, but police still have a warrant for the third suspect.
Blackman now faces several larceny charges. She is due in court December 7th.
