ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH) — Ansonia Police are investigating a shooting that left a woman injured at the Savor Lounge.
Police were on the scene of the nightclub at 370 East Main Street around 2:30 in the morning on November 22. Officers were there to oversee the crowd exiting the establishment. Due to the large size of the crowd exiting the building, officers from Derby and Seymour were also on scene as there had been numerous problems reported in the area as the Lounge closes each weekend.
While officers were outside waiting for the crowd to leave, officers heard what they believed to be two muffled gunshots from inside the building. Immediately after hearing these noises, people began to flee out of the building. The officers attempted to enter the building to investigate, but were hampered by numerous people fighting and shoving in the aftermath of the gunshots.
As police took one man into custody for fighting, another gunshot was heard, this time from the outside of the building. Officers rushed outside, but did not locate anyone injured.
Later that day, police were notified that a woman was being treated for a gunshot wound after telling hospital personnel she had been grazed by a bullet while at the Savor Lounge. The female victim later told officers that she was struck outside while trying to flee from the sound of gunshots from inside the building.
Investigators were able to recover one bullet from within the building.
No arrests have been made, the case remains under investigation.
