BURLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Torrington woman is dead after a crash on Route 4 in Burlington on Thursday afternoon.
State police were called to Route 4, east of Route 179 in Burlington just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday for a serious accident. Troopers say that 57-year-old Eileen Shannon of Torrington was killed in the crash.
Shannon was driving a Jeep Cherokee, with three passengers, on Route 4 westbound when she crossed into eastbound traffic and struck a commercial truck being driven by 29-year-old Thomas Larson of Old Lyme. The truck overturned and a fuel tank ruptured.
Larson and another passenger, 35-year-old Jason Ballestrini of East Lyme, were not injured in the crash. A third passenger, 28-year-old Jared Kopec of East Haddam was taken to Hartford Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
The three Jeep passengers were all transported with possible injuries. 38-year-old Pamela Brown of Winsted was taken to Hartford Hospital, 37-year-old Jessica Vandebogart of Winsted was taken to St. Francis, and a 4-year-old boy was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Route 4 was closed for several hours while police investigated and DEEP and DOT cleaned the scene.
State police say this accident is still under investigation.
