Milford Police Warn of Utility Scam Distraction Thieves

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Tis’ the season for scam artists and Milford Police are warning you to be careful with who you let in your home. They say a trio of thieves worked together distracting a homeowner to make off with cash, jewelry and other items.

It happened on December 2nd. Milford Police say a guy, wearing an ID badge around his neck, knocked on the door of a home on Wheelers Farms Road saying he was there to check the meters and needed to get inside. The homeowner let him in and while they were in the basement, police say two other guys entered the home taking valuables. The homeowner then noticed the other guys in the home and the trio took off.

Milford Police want to remind you to never let strangers into your home without verifying with the company they work for and always call 911 if you feel pressured into opening your door.
