SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WTNH) – The amount of money being spent to develop a casino and hotel complex in Springfield is the focus of state gambling regulators.

Those regulators are wanting to know why the development of the MGM casino has risen from $800 million to $950 million despite project officials implementing what they said were cost-saving changes to its design.

Members of the state’s gaming commission at a meeting on Thursday expressed skepticism about the amount of money estimated to bring the casino to fruition.
