New London Police investigating Connecticut Avenue homicide

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — The New London police department is currently investigating a homicide in the city that occurred Thursday evening.

According to police, officers responded to Connecticut Avenue near Grand Street for the report of several gunshots fired in the area shortly before 11:00 p.m. While heading to the scene, police received additional 9-1-1 calls reporting a man down in the area.

Officers who arrived on scene found the victim, 29-year-old Gilberto Olivencia, which injuries from gunshots on the front porch of his Grand Street home.

Police say the Olivencia was sent to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Detectives from the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad, inspectors from the New London County States Attorney’s Office as well as detectives from the New London police are investigating at this time.
