Syrian refugees arrive in Canada

TORONTO, ONTARIO (WIVB) — The first wave of Syrian refugees have now arrived in Canada, landing at Pearson Airport in Toronto.

The Toronto Mayor, Canadian Prime Minister, other officials and Ontario residents have been preparing for this moment for months. Hundreds of Ontario residents are stepping up as sponsors for the refugees – helping financially to support travel costs, any expenses, find housing and schools.

The Canadian government plans to welcome 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2015 and 25,000 by the end of February 2016.
