UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — It is an exciting day for the Connecticut Sun. A new head coach is announced and reporters have gathered in the Cabaret Theater to meet him.
“The future is now. The new head coach of the Connecticut Sun Curt Miller,” announces Connecticut Sun CEO Mitchell Etess.
News8 was at Mohegan Sun for the announcement so we asked Curt Miller about the controversial comments made by former NBA Guard Gilbert Arenas. On Instagram Arenas posted a racy video and said people want to see prettier WNBA players wearing skimpy underwear.
“All I will say is the women in the WNBA are amazing players and more importantly amazing people,” says Miller.
“It’s disappointing and disrespectful,” adds Brian Agler who is the head of the Los Angeles Sparks and Miller’s mentor. He says many current and past NBA players support the WNBA and attend games. As for Arenas’ statement…
“It’s irrelevant you know because he’s not involved. He’s out. I think it’s just someone trying to get attention.”
“People say stupid things on Instagram and Twitter continually,” says Etess. “I’m not surprised to hear someone say something that doesn’t make sense.”
“It shows he’s extremely unknowledgeable about who and what these ladies represent and what they do on a day to day basis so I was completely disgusted by his statement to be quite honest,” adds Chris Sienko who is the Connecticut Sun’s General Manager.
Connecticut Sun players return to the hard court for the new season in May.
