NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– The holiday season is a busy time of year and for millions of people it means visiting loved ones. AAA expects nearly one in three Americans to travel this holiday season. But if you have kids sometimes traveling can be stressful.

If your holiday plans involve a car trip experts say staying organized can keep you reduce your stress. You’ll want to make sure you have everything you need ready and accessible. Since gas prices are still low triple a is expecting more than 100-million people to travel 50 miles or more from home for the holidays. And it expects more than 90 million of them to drive.

This would be the first time this many people have traveled since triple a started keeping record. But if the roads are congested there are ways to reduce the stress of traveling.

Parents say their best advice is to plan ahead. Stock the car with everything you’ll need beforehand so you don’t have to worry about it when you’re heading out the door. Bring things like books, toys and movies to keep your kids busy. And make sure you keep everything nearby so you don’t have to search for it.

“We have snacks we could grab quickly or toys, something to keep them entertained. I like to talk to them about what we’re doing, what we’re seeing, different places we’re going and it keeps them engaged,” said Yazmin Jason, Creator, Connecticut Mommy Blog

Even if you’re not driving this holiday season, thinking ahead will make travel go more smoothly.
