Clothing designer celebrates career success

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Snipping away at a career. A New Haven designer explains his journey.

Neville Wisdom grew up in Jamaica where his love of fashion came from his mother. “She made clothing for her family for the most part. So she taught me some things,” he said.

The owner of Neville Wisdom, LLC makes sure he doesn’t take any day for granted. Growing up in Jamaica, there was no running water in his home. “I live in a place now whenever I turn a faucet water runs out of it. I come from an environment where we had to walk and then catch that water and put it in a bucket and then bring it back home.”

His journey from poverty to success has not been easy. There’s alot of work in being a designer, he explains. “Sacrifice is a very important part of achieving what one’s desires. It helps a great deal in knowing what it is that you really want as opposed to what you think you want.”

For nearly 25 years Wisdom has made channeled his creativity into designing clothes, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. “If you could get up every morning and pretty much enjoy yourself and why wouldn’t you?”
