Detectives Arrest Man Accused of Stealing Purses From Church Volunteers

VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) – Vernon Police detectives have arrested a man in connection with some church thefts.  Police say the 56-year-old Hartford man stole two women’s purses.  They were volunteers, setting up for a church breakfast with Santa when their bags were ripped off.  Police say Eaton headed right to the liquor store after the thefts.  Eaton was on parole at the time.

Media attention to the story caused several people to come forward with information that was helpful for detectives.  Police were able to locate Eaton, even though he tried to change his appearance following the media stories on the thefts.  Detectives are thanking everyone who came forward with information.
